philosophy
When you hire me, you are hiring a psychotherapist who is trained as a birth doula, to be with you during the birthing process.  I am trained to teach people coping skills for anxiety and stress, as well as to assist in crisis situations.  Typically, giving birth is not a crisis; it is a natural event in our lives.
I do not replace your birth partner(s), but rather, enhance your birth experience by involving your partner more deeply (and giving them a break when they're exhausted).  I support you in advocating for yourself, whether you choose a hospital birth, low-intervention birth, or change your mind during labor at home.  I believe your body knows best how to give birth, and that in labor, you yourself will intuit what is needed.  The surrounding environment and your mindset greatly affect your experience, and I assist in tuning that through mindfulness so you feel safe and comfortable.   Birth is an opportunity for transformation, a way to reclaim your body.  The educated mother is a confident mother with the power of choice.  I want this to carry forward throughout a lifetime of motherhood, which is why I am trained with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and offer workshops and consultations normalizing infant sleep.  I would be honored to be present for any part of your journey in parenthood.

bio
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas (License #68219) and started working in mental health in 2010.  I have provided counseling and advocacy services with the following organizations: Austin Independent School District, Workforce Solutions, Austin Travis County Integral Care, National Domestic Violence Hotline, Austin Community College, Any Baby Can, Capital Area Counseling, Giving Austin Labor Support.  I received my Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Education in Counselor Education from The University of Texas at Austin.
I found I enjoyed working most with pregnant and new mothers/couples in my counseling internship and decided to further my learning as a birth doula in 2015.   As I started to meet clients with a trauma/abuse history, or who experienced birth and reproductive trauma, I became passionate about providing support for these mothers.
I am diagnosed with endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, infertility, and an autoimmune disease.  Fighting for diagnoses and treatment plans reinforced my belief that everyone deserves evidence-based education in their reproductive health choices, and can benefit from self-advocacy with support.  I am an avid cross-stitcher and love creating birth affirmations and nursery art!
